Radio Latvia is a national public broadcaster, established on
November 1, 1925.

Since 2002 Radio Latvia supports four programme services :
Latvijas Radio 1,
Latvijas Radio 2,
Latvijas Radio 3 – Klasika and
Latvijas Radio 4 – Doma Square.

The programmes are distributed via FM networks (see
Schedules and Frequencies) and by means of web-casting (see
International Broadcasting Schedules).

Radio Latvia is a culture-orientated company and it is the largest programme
producer in Latvia, supporting its Radio Theatre, Radio Chorus, and children’s vocal group.
The sound archives hold about 300 000 items. Since January 1, 1993, Radio Latvia
is Active Member of the European Broadcasting Union (EBU).

LATVIJAS RADIO 1

Radio Latvia One is a national programme service in Latvian. It offers world
news, information and analyses of Latvian politics, social life, economy, and culture,
supplemented by a choice of children’s programmes, fiction and drama, religious
programmes, serious music and light music, and introduces the audience to the treasures
of our legacy.

LATVIJAS RADIO 2

“Songs in the Native Tongue”

LR 2 is a programme service based on Latvian pop music. Its sources
can be traced back to 1995, when it was decided to establish a entertainment
channel for youth under the auspices of Radio Latvia. Since January 1, 2002
LR 2 extended its programming to 24 hours per day, and is now a real
full-time service. The remit of this programme service is to broadcast the best that
has been produced by the country.

LATVIJAS RADIO 3 – KLASIKA

“Fashions may Change but Classics Remains”

Klasika is the only serious music channel in Latvia. Only Klasika offers
Latvian original music and pieces from the unique Latvian Radio archive that have been
recorded by Latvian musicians. And only Klasika will play the newest recordings that
are being produced and recorded at our in-house studios and concert halls throughout
Latvia on a regular basis. Partnership within EBU permits Klasika not only to benefit
from unique concerts and live transmissions made available from abroad, but also to
offer our contributions to the world.

LATVIJAS RADIO 4 – DOMA LAUKUMS

“Your Space and Your Time”

The Dome Square is our integration programme service broadcasting in
Russian and in the languages of other linguistic minorities who live in our country.
The channel offers information and analyses of Latvian politics, social life, economy,
and culture, focuses on music and youth. At 3 PM you are welcome to a dedicated
infotainment show: the best Russian and foreign pop-songs, as well as bulletins of
current news four times an hour.
